Dear Friends,
Next week we will be looking back and reflecting on a moment in time when our community rose above one of the worst natural disasters to impact an American university campus. I was fairly new to Los Angeles at the time, but that morning of January 17, 1994, when the Northridge earthquake struck is still firmly in my memory.
In putting this project together with Jacques Heim of DIAVOLO, it was important to me and to my role here at The Soraya and CSUN that yes, it is a work about an earthquake – but also a piece of art that highlights human resiliency, compassion, and community. As I’ve watched and helped guide this performance to completion with Jacques and his team, I think we have risen to that challenge.
If you are already planning on attending one of the two exclusive performances of this World Premiere, you are in for an incredible experience. If you have not yet planned on being with us on January 17 or 19, I encourage you to make the effort to see this amazing performance that I am sure will move you – even if you did not experience the events that inspired us to create this work.
Looking forward to seeing you next week.
Warmly,
