Soraya Stories

Director Selects | May 29, 2020

By Thor Steingraber

This week, we catch up with artists from our Hecho en Las Américas series. Journalist and friend of The Soraya, Betto Arcos, provides a glimpse into how this time at home resonates for three powerhouse performers while also sharing anecdotes and impressions from their time on our stage. And from her living room, La Marisoul delivers a soulful performance that makes an ordinary Zoom call extraordinary.

Betto Arcos Interviews Soraya alums Lila Downs, Arturo O’Farrill, and Eugenia León

In this series of exclusive interviews for The Soraya, Music Journalist Betto Arcos (NPR, KPCC) connects with Lila Downs, Arturo O’Farrill, and Eugenia León to reminisce about their experiences at The Soraya and to reflect on this time of self-isolation.

Natural History Museum presents La Marisoul in their First Fridays series

We are heartbroken that our engagement with La Marisoul was postponed twice: once for the wildfires in the fall and, most recently, for COVID-19. We were thrilled to have her host our Jazz Club series this season and look forward to bringing her music to you soon. In the meantime, here’s a little taste of her powerhouse vocals in this performance as part of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles’ First Fridays series.
